On a tiny beach in the port of San Luis Obispo on a Tuesday night in August, a group gathers on the beach while dogs run free. They unpack their vans and campers full of firewood, ice chests, and drums. Once the sun starts to go down and the light of the day fades they start up the fire, light their fire-spinning sticks gather around the fire with a drum in hand and start to play. The sounds can be heard for miles make people from near by beaches come over to see what it going on. The crowd around the drummers gets bigger and bigger as the sky gets darker. People start to groove to the primal beat of the Samba Style drumming. This is something every beach lover should experiance. It’s what I would imagine a Friday night to be on a desert island with all the shipwrecked individuals gathering to party.
